Here’s number six in my navy collection! I’m not usually one for maxi dresses, but I was so inspired by these photos of Julia Engel in France that I wanted to create a similar dress, and hopefully a similar Provence-feeling!
I had originally purchased the fabric I used in my last dress to make a more exact replica of Julia’s dress, but for some reason, I never went for it. Then I went ahead and used it with the other pattern, so I had to find an alternative for my peasant dress. I had this blue fabric from my Grandma’s Stash and I loved the slightly crinkled, flowy feel of it.
I didn’t have quite enough for the pattern, so the bottom ruffle isn’t as gathered as it’s supposed to be, but I doubt anyone can tell but me. I had also originally made it with no trim, but it felt a bit too plain for me. So I went hunting through the many trims in her stash as well, and found these two cream trims that coordinated so well and added just that little bit of interest to the dress. I also cut a long sash to tie around the waist. It goes around me three times!
I used the strap pattern from View D to add shoulder straps. I thought I would like the added support sometimes, but I can also unbutton them and push them down and make them disappear. I used navy bias trip on the armhole.
Overall, this was a very easy dress to make and I like the variety it adds to my wardrobe!
