First Day of School

ladyherndon Home, Turkey

Today marked a rite of passage for our Prince: his first day of preschool. Since we were still involved in orientation, our day started late enough for us to drop him off in the morning. We prayed for him, pinned a cross to his backpack to remind him of Who was always watching over him, and talked to him about this new stage of his life. He was so excited and all the teachers greeted him warmly. He waved at us happily when we left and we have to admit that the only tears came from Lady Herndon.

When we came home that evening, we took him out for a special celebratory dinner and gave him two gifts to honor the occasion. One of the gifts was a knight costume. He went through a small ceremony where Lord Herndon spoke to him about his new role as a page, learning how to serve others and begin the process of becoming a man. We are marking these moments in his life according to the suggestions from Raising a Modern-Day Knight. The rest of the night, Prince ran around in his costume and we chased him with the camera.

Follow the King, little Prince. Follow the King.
