Flowers, Sunshine, and Smiles

This past weekend, right at the time of year when most schools are boosting morale by providing a spring break, our school thoughtfully scheduled a mandatory, full-weekend conference.

How considerate, don’t you think?

Instead of paying our nanny for two more full days, we decided to split the difference. Lord Herndon attended one day of the conference, and I attended the other.

While Lord Herndon was sitting through plenary sessions, I took the kids out to enjoy the flowers and sunshine in Göztepe Park near the school.

The colors were bright, the sun was cheerful, and the outfits were perfect. If only I had my Photography Partner to help get the kids to grin when the shutter clicked. Still, I got a few good shots to practice for the Istanbul Tulip Festival that starts this Easter weekend.

Unfortunately, Lord Herndon’s day off wasn’t so pleasant. He made the long voyage to church with the kids, stayed for choir practice, and then journeyed home. By the time I returned at the end of the conference, everyone was exhausted.

The weekend was over.
