Home on the Range

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

There are so many things we missed about Colorado that we didn’t even realize until we came back.

-the big, impossibly blue bowl of the sky, full of marvelous clouds in shapes and colors that change constantly
-the dry heat of a summer day and the sudden crash of an afternoon thundershower
-huge fields of tall sunflowers with bowed heads
-the ever-present backdrop of the mountains along the horizon, calling to us with promises of hiking, camping, fishing…
-friendly people selling home-grown fruits and vegetables and homemade salsa and jam
-the smell of roasting chili peppers

These are more of the fish I need to count as blessings. It is so good to be home after living abroad for three years, because I am falling in love with these things all over again.

We went to visit our friend Kim and her fiance Pete, and they took us up to the county fair. Prince and Princess loved looking at the 4-H, award-winning pigs, sheep, goats, and horses.

We even took a walk through the poultry shed, but it was a bit too loud for Sweet Pea. She liked the big, quiet horse much better.

Afterward, we washed off our dusty feet in a pool in their shady backyard.
