Preschool Update: Royalty Unit

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

Prince and I have been studying Royalty all week. We checked out books on it (including my new favorite: Falling for Rapunzel), played with medieval Legos, learned new vocabulary words, did worksheets, made a “me in the castle” craft, and played swordfighters.

We needed to top the unit off with a field trip, so the kids donned their costumes and we drove over to the Glen Eyrie Castle. I had visited the castle several times in college, took the tour, and photographed it many times, so I was surprised when I pulled up to the gate and was told that I couldn’t take pictures of the castle itself unless I paid $100 per hour.

Excuse me?

Apparently the castle is copyrighted, so there went my grandiose idea of getting that “perfect shot” of Prince and Princess in their costumes in front of the castle.

Still, I managed to find a rather antique-looking door in the Carriage House to use as a backdrop, and the kids ran around the grounds for over an hour, slaying dragons and finding secret passageways.
