My bestie Nicole helped me with Kenya Week by supplying us with some traditional dresses, some Kenya photography books, and a beautiful elephant-design fabric panel. She went to Kenya in college for a mission trip and her memorabilia was a great way to introduce the kids to this amazing country.
We started off the week by swimming at an outdoor pool, Wilson Ranch, which the kids L.O.V.E.D. Even though it is owned by our gym, we still had a pay a fee, so I’ll keep it as a treat this summer. Maybe next year when more of the kids can swim unattended it will be worth it to get the summer pass and visit all of the outdoor pools as much as we want.
We ate out at the Elephant Bar, checked out a ton of books about Kenya (some included recipes for ethnic dishes!), watched The Lion King and Zootopia, and of course visited our Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for an African Animal Scavenger Hunt.
We loved it that one of the male lion cubs, born last summer, was named Aslan. “Aslan” is Turkish for lion, as well as a beloved book character who represents Jesus!
