Handies Peak

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

We were so encouraged by Alex’s performance on Mt. Sherman, we brought him along with us for another one! We had planned early in the summer to make the long drive to the San Juans to do Handies Peak, near Lake City. It was a strangely cloudy, foggy day, so it felt like we were in the Highlands of Scotland.

We sure love our Durango and where it can take us. The drive to Handies involved a lot of four-wheeling and our car handled it like a pro.

Handies Peak had one of the most gorgeous basins full of flowers I have ever seen.

Coming up to the top, we couldn’t see more than 10 feet in front of us, so we had no idea how much further it was to summit! It was surreal. But summit we did, and I’m happy to say the tally stands thus:

Sarah – 22

Mike – 14

Alex – 2
