Breckenridge

We started this summer, our last in Colorado, with a trip to Breckenridge over Memorial Day weekend. It was Evelyn and Penny’s turn to bring friends. Since Penny’s best friend, Mackenzie, was a little nervous to spend the night in a new town over a weekend, we brought Dominick Gillin instead. Dominick and Penny have been friends since birth and his mom and I hope that a more formal bond is in their future!

Evelyn brought her best friend, Josh Rose. We also approve of that match. Ha!

We loaded up the Durango with 2 adults, 6 kids (!) and all 8 bikes on top. We always cause quite a stir when we drive around like this.

Since we couldn’t leave until Friday night, we pulled in quite late and just went to bed. Saturday morning, though, we made French toast and had a true feast.

We needed energy for our usual bike ride to Frisco! It’s about 9.5/10 miles each way and I’m always so impressed with our kids, biking that whole way.

We met friends, Jim and Thea Lanum, in Frisco for lunch and some ice cream. Also, eating ice cream while sitting by a fire pit. Yeah, that’s Colorado.

Penny and Dominick were the only two kids who could touch their nose with their tongues. Coincidence?

Josh and Evelyn did not stop talking together the entire weekend.

Then it was time for some rock climbing while we waited for Mike to bring the Durango back to pick us up. Usually, we ride our bikes home too, but today the wind and weather kicked up and we narrowly avoided a rainstorm. I was glad not to have to try to encourage 6 kids to keep riding through something like that!

That evening was spent relaxing, reading books, and starting an epic game of Monopoly that would end up lasting the whole weekend.

Sunday morning, we hiked up to the Fairy Forest, one of our favorite hikes in Breckenridge. Unfortunately, it looked like there had been a mass evacuation because all the little creatures and their homes were gone! We still enjoyed the reservoir and mountain biking obstacle course.

I love the way her hair glows in the sun.

I knew the kids would love the obstacle course, so we spent some good time there.

And on the walk back to the condo, we came across this amazing umbrella exhibit that was being erected throughout the town! I even think there were lights inside so they would glow at night. So innovative!

Monday morning we headed home after cleaning the condo. Mike was very kind to let us take a detour to Buena Vista so we could eat at our favorite burger place, K’s Dairy Delite. We love eating there after hiking a mountain and it was equally good to eat after a weekend in Breckenridge!

We made sure to play at the park for awhile before piling back in the car again.

Now I’ll be grateful to “only” bring 4 kids to Breckenridge from now on!
