Kamianets-Podilskyi

We spent a full day in the lovely town of Kamianets-Podilskyi, and it was nowhere near long enough. What a stunning location with golden hills, canyons and rivers! I have since learned that they have hot air balloon festivals in May and October (must have been right after we left), so we plan to return in the spring for that and to go hiking.

After breakfast, we spent several hours exploring every inch of the castle.

Testing to see if any of the kids are worthy…

The weather started out cold, foggy and drizzly, and we resigned ourselves to a miserable morning. After arming ourselves at a nearby weaponry, we wandered through the tunnels, along the ramparts, and up the stairs. Just as we emerged from the darkness of a tower, the sunshine pushed through the layer of clouds and they conceded the victory, rolling back to reveal a stunning blue sky.

Then we hiked down into the canyon and wandered along the river for a bit. It was such a beautiful, golden autumn day.

We all needed some downtime, so we went back to the hotel room and read books or took naps. We drove home the next morning, already planning when we could return to Kamianets-Podilskyi.
