What does Lord Herndon do to relax? That is, when he’s not A. helping take care of the kids, B. spending time with me, C. working on his online master’s course, D. searching for teaching jobs and filling out applications, E. doing his quiet time, F. running to the store, the bank, or the school, G. cleaning up the apartment, or H. any of the myriad other things a husband and father does?
He’s reading.
My beloved husband will probably be the first to tell you that he has never been much of a reader. Through high school and college, he read only what he had to. Then, while we were dating, he started reading A Wrinkle in Time out loud to me. We ended up going through the entire series. After that, and seeing how I disappeared for a day when Deathly Hallows came out, he started reading through the Harry Potter series on his own.
Now, it’s Septimus Heap who has captured his attention.
And I think Percy Jackson may follow.
Not only does it get him reading, but these young adult books help him connect to the age level that he loves teaching.
Personally? I love it. Now I’m not the only one who stumbles into bed in the early hours of the morning, shamefully admitting that I just “couldn’t put the book down.”
