A Day Out with Thomas

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

Maybe it’s because we’ve been out of the country for the last three years, but Lord Herndon and I just want to do every event and now. We’ve been gone somewhere, seeing something, every weekend since we got back. But this last trip was one we always knew we would invest in: meeting Prince’s favorite toy, Thomas the Tank Engine.

We drove up to Denver first to have breakfast with my sister, her husband, and my uncle, then went to pick up my nephew Logan. He is a bit older than Princess and just beginning to discover the joys of Thomas. Then we were off to Golden to the Colorado Railroad Museum, and oh my word, you should have heard Prince squeal as soon as he caught sight of the cheeky blue engine from the car window. Of course we had to drive past the museum to get to the parking, so he was practically dancing in his seat until we got there.

The ticket included a 25 minute train ride with Thomas, and if the only ones who look happy in this picture are the adults, don’t be fooled. It’s only because we made them turn away from the windows to look at the camera. The rest of the time, they were little squirrels in their seats, trying to be good listeners and not stand up and point and shout at everything they could see out the windows.
They even had a conductor punch our tickets.

It would still have been kind of expensive if that’s all you got to do, but they had other activities as well. We let the kids get temporary tattoos of their favorite engines.

Watch the many different battery-powered trains running along their tracks in the miniature Island of Sodor.

Play with the Thomas table.

And the highlight: meeting Sir Topham Hat. We had to drag Prince away from him because there were other kids waiting in line, but this was his absolute favorite part of the whole day. He was shaking with excitement when he walked up to the suited man.

By the end of the day, we had three very satisfied kiddos, one sleeping baby, and two hot, tired, and sweaty adults. There was definitely snoring in the car on the drive home…
