The Man of My Dreams

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

This holiday weekend was a perfect opportunity for us to move down to our new house in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of work for everyone involved, especially Lord Herndon, his brother Tom, and my Uncle Scott. Lord Herndon left Friday right after work to pick up the U-Haul truck, met us for a quick picnic dinner, then drove all the way to Golden to get the furniture for the kids’ room that we found on craigslist. That sounds like enough for one night, doesn’t it? But no, he wasn’t finished. He then drove to his Aunt Cynthia’s to pick up our stuff that she had been storing in her basement (mostly excruciatingly heavy tubs of books). It was 11 pm before he got back. Thus progressed every day of the weekend. Move furniture, go to the store, unpack, chase kids, sleep, unpack, go to the store, repeat ad naseum. But hey, we are sleeping in a big, beautiful house that is ours for the next year, and if you think Lord Herndon doesn’t spend a lot of time looking out the window at the yard with stars in his eyes and thoughts in his head, you don’t know my husband very well.

He had many moments of glory this weekend, tirelessly unpacking and moving while I watched the kids and tried to make meals with nothing more than a garlic press and a bag of baby carrots. At one point, though, when we were in Target (again) and all three kids had broken down and were screaming in the checkout line and people were turning to point and stare at us, Lord Herndon just looked up at me and started laughing. At that point, it was the best thing he could have done to diffuse the mood and keep us both from snapping. I loved him for it.

He also brought home a few bottles of Mike’s Margaritas to celebrate our first night in the house. It’s just one of those things he does to love, honor, and cherish me, like moving all of the heavy furniture before I can even offer to help, asking if he needs to run an errand on the way home from school, and always being happy to see the kids no matter how tired he is.

Lord Herndon, you meant what you said on our wedding day. I knew it from the first moment I met you: you are the man of my dreams.
