Mumma Visit

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

Our friends Charis and Matt came through our city on their month-long road trip around the United States. I met Charis almost ten years ago (whoa!) when we studied abroad together in Scotland, and we try to get together as often as possible despite living states – and sometimes countries – apart.

Despite my attempts to talk the pair (and their dog!) into climbing a 14er during their stay with us (we just couldn’t quite figure out the logistics of carrying that many kids for that long), we ended up hiking the Seven Bridges trail in Cheyenne Canyon – a beautiful romp through the woods along a rumbling stream with – you guessed it – seven bridge crossings.

Princess latched on to Charis and Prince made best friends with Matt, aka “the doggie’s daddy.”

Exploring a butterfly.

It was very gratifying to see Prince and Princess so interested in Cambridge, the dog, and wanting to take turns pulling his “string.” They have been skittish and fearful around dogs because of the wild, aggressive stray dogs that terrorized us in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Matt and Charis joked that now they would ask us to get one of our own. Lord Herndon and I just said, Mmm, no.

The only sad part? No Lord Herndon.

You know the real reason I took these two friends on a hike with me? So they could help me carry my kids when they got tired! (just kidding)
