Fourth of July Family Pics

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

Wow, where have I been for two years?! A friend of ours who was pregnant with their fourth asked if it was hard to go from three kids to four. I answered honestly, yes! Just look what happened to me! Two years disappeared!

I plan to eventually catch up this blog with stories, videos, and pictures from these missing two years, but in the meantime, let’s just start where we are now.

We were finally able to get family photos taken at Rock Ledge Ranch on Independence Day. I think they turned out great!

Alex, our Prince, is 8. Evelyn, the Princess, is now 5 1/2. Sweet Pea, aka Penny, is just shy of 4. And Theo, our Warrior, is almost 2.

We’ll let you guess how old Lord and Lady Herndon are. But as a hint, we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this summer!

When we walk like this, I call it the “Herndon Train.”

Alex will be in 2nd grade this year. He has been in therapy for  about 6 months, while also attending a school that is already set up to give him the tools he needs to succeed. We have learned a lot about him and what he needs during this time, and have seen some improvements in his self-regulating and behavior. I hope that he will continue to grow and learn and hopefully, maybe by the time he’s in middle school, everything will fall into place.

Alex’s favorite things are Star Wars (still!), Legos, computer games, space, planes, and the Air Force. We recently toured the AFA and I thought it would be such a perfect fit for him, because they tell you what to do and when to do it, and every day the schedule is predictable. That’s just what he needs!

Evelyn is the original model for my Etsy store, so of course she is great at posing. She’s been ready for school since last year, but having a late birthday meant she had to wait. Thankfully, this fall, the wait is over! She’ll attend Kindergarten at the same school as Alex. She has been the one I can trust with “babysitting” the others while I am working downstairs. Evelyn is mostly calm, mature, thoughtful, and surprisingly polite. For instance, if I bump into her with the cart while shopping and apologize, she’ll say “That’s ok Mom! I’m sure I was walking too close to you anyway so it’s really my fault.”  I get a lot of surprised smiles from passerby during those exchanges!

Evelyn’s favorite things are horses and ponies, mermaids, princesses, hiking, swimming, riding her bike, and Legos.

We call Sweet Pea “Penny Pickles,” and I think it’s pretty fitting. She walks the line between toddler and child, still says many words in a cute mispronunciation, and suffers from extreme emotional fluctuations! Lately, Penny has become quite the artist, and will doodle and practice her letters on every available surface, whether it’s parent approved or not. She alternatively is Theo’s best friend and toughest adversary. If someone pushed him down, it’s usually Penny. But she also gives the tightest hugs. I am very interested to see what happens when Penny is the Big Sister during the school hours.

Penny’s favorite things are drawing, coloring, princesses, running, swimming, and snuggling.

Theo is a very different type of boy than Alex. He loves to wrestle and play with a ball, and is our first child to chip a tooth! He even lost the filling for it just a few weeks later and I had to take him in again. Theo is the one who throws toys when he’s mad, charges your legs like a bull when he wants a hug, and repeats nearly everything he hears (watch your mouth!). He wants to do everything the older kids are doing, and I have to stay on my toes to make sure he’s safe when he starts jumping off boulders.

He loves cars, Legos, trains, and holding stuffed animals by their tags.

See you next time! Hopefully not two years from now. 🙂
