Our second stop on July Fourth was the Penrose Heritage Museum at the Broadmoor. I’d never even heard of some of these until I started this whole theme-thing. It feels like we’re doing a farewell tour of Colorado Springs to prepare us for when we move overseas again, even if it’s in a few years. At least we can say we saw it all!
This place was really one of the best museums I’ve ever seen. It had everything from early model cars to carriages throughout their evolution to Native American clothing to Victorian-era safes to an amazing recreation of the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb!
Penny was so excited when I pointed out to her that the details on her Kaya American Girl doll matched the details on these authentic Native American dresses.
Then we went into the next room which was even cooler!
This car below was so scary: the wreckage of a race car that went off a cliff in the 2012 race, and both drivers miraculously survived with minimal injuries. There was footage taken from the car itself as it went over that made me nauseous. Talk about scary!
There were some truly awesome race cars shown here! They started with some of the first cars to race up the mountain and went all the way to the latest record-setting winner.
What a fun day!
