Valentine’s Day Double Date

ladyherndon Colorado, Home

We just had the second-best Valentine’s Day EVER!

(I say second-best only because, 12 years ago, Mike proposed on Valentine’s Day, so that one was definitely the best!)

Mike and our friend Matt planned out the entire thing, with no (or limited) help from Beth and I. That’s exactly how we wanted it.

Let me set the scene for you:

First, they found babysitters for the evening. Our friends from church, Dan and Fina, not only ordered pizza for our kids, but they brought ice cream and popcorn! And they played LEGOs and coloring with them for hours! Talk about the way to a kids’ heart!

When we went to pick Matt and Beth up, they had a beautiful table setting and backdrop all set up. I was so impressed! I mean, roses?! And lights strung behind tulle?! Talk about ambiance! We took some cute couples photos before heading out.

Next, the men took us to a dance at a local school-turned-bar/brewery/cafe/dance hall (Ivywild School), which conveniently enough had a vintage theme for Valentine’s Day! There was a live swing band for the evening, a raffle drawing, and even a performance by a dance troupe from Denver. Nicole and Jon met us there too and she taught us some basic dance steps so we could swing and jive along with everyone else, and it was packed! So surreal to be in a school gym. It was like a high school reunion but much, much better! Beth and I felt right at home in our handmade dresses. It was perfect!

Mike had given me a FitBit for my birthday, which I made sure to wear on the date (with a bracelet to make it look more dressy!). It was fun to see how many steps we took and calories we burned during those hours of dancing. My heart rate was up the entire time!

Then Mike and Matt took us back to the house where they made us shrimp and lobster pasta, mozzerella, basil and tomato appetizers, french bread dipped in oil, and wine! It was so romantic, fun, and relaxing. I loved every single minute. And I can’t stop bragging about my amazing date to everyone who asks how my Valentine’s weekend was!
