Happy 11th Birthday, Alex!

It’s so hard to believe (much less type!) but my first-born turned 11! This is our “party year,” so for his birthday Alex originally asked for a laser tag party. When we started investigating how much it would cost, the minimum was over $250. Gah! So then we suggested a roller skating party, which was then $180, but included a pair of roller skates for the birthday boy. Even then, Mike and I wouldn’t have been able to get him any gifts to go with his party, so I went even further and scheduled a regular skating session where we paid for whichever kids showed up, and then after the 2 hours were over, we drove everyone over to Dion’s (Alex’s favorite), and ordered a family-size pizza, salad, and sweet tea, and I brought cupcakes from home. It turned out awesome, involved absolutely no decorating or hosting on my part, and was exponentially cheaper than all of the other options. Score for the parents!

See the victory arms?

See the wink and thumbs up?

And this way, we were still able to get Alex the thing his heart most desires: Star Wars LEGOs.

Alex also got to feel special at karate because he was asked to speak to each class about his experience with the karate program at our local YMCA. He loves speaking in front of people so this was an extra boost to his day.

Thankfully, my sweet young man is easy to please!
