Martinez Art Show: Steampunk!

My other favorite event at the school each year (which also takes place in February) is the Martinez Art Show. It truly is incredible how the entire school is transformed for these shows. The art teacher, Mrs. Dunn, picks a theme, and every class does an art project related to that theme. They decorate the building, everyone dresses up, and they have crafts and shows in the gym. So fun!

We’ve had a Night at the Museum theme, one year it was Ancient Egypt (complete with a walk-in pyramid), and this year’s theme was Steampunk.

I had a ton of ideas for the kids’ costumes, but just not enough time or money to make it happen. I’m so grateful they were all gracious and let us put together outfits from what we had, with a few fun gear-embellished elements.

We invited the Gillins to come check it out with us. Barrett even got to participate in the magic show!

They had hired circus performers to put on two shows that night. I was so impressed that they could put up a transportable system like this for the hoop and silk performers! Very Cirque du Soleil.

Fitness goals here!

The genius behind it all: Mrs. Dunn.

I am really going to miss these shows next year. Hopefully we can find that Kyiv International Sschool has something similar. If not, we’ll suggest it!
