After several days relaxing in Huntington and celebrating Christmas the British way with the Pauls, we ventured forth again and spent one day at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland to go ice skating, wander through the shops, eat crepes, ride roller-coasters, and enjoy the festive air of a British Christmas market. Afterwards, we walked through London to visit Hamleys, the oldest and biggest toy store in the world.
London during Christmastime was beautiful, but so packed with people that we felt overwhelmed pretty quickly and decided not to return the next day. We will come again in the summer to see more of the historical attractions.
The next day, we visited Ely Cathedral.
The Cathedral was founded as a monastery in 673 and is incredibly beautiful. It was lovingly decorated for Christmas!
We loved seeing the stained glass museum. We even found a very “British” nativity, which seemed to be quite a challenge at first.
I particularly loved this glass of Jesus working with Joseph in his shop. I wish it had been lit up like the others.
We walked through Ely itself to admire the Christmas lights before heading home.
