Þingvellir National Park and Gullfoss

ladyherndon Home, Iceland

We started this morning with some shopping in Reykjavik. I was so happy to find an Icelandic nativity made from locally sourced wool! Ever since I found my Kyrgyz nativity, I’ve tried to get one every time we’re in a new country, if possible. October was too early to find one in Georgia, but I was successful in Iceland and England since it’s the Christmas season.

We had fun in the Thor Store too.

We drove back along the Golden Circle to Þingvellir National Park to explore the exposed North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and the incredible geography of the park.

We found two impressive waterfalls here where the water is quite literally tumbling from one piece of the earth’s crust to the other.

Emmy inspecting Drekkingarhylur.

We walked further on to find the Öxarárfoss waterfall.

After we left the park, we drove onward on the Golden Circle past Geysir to see Gullfoss (the “Golden Falls” of Iceland) in time for moon rise.
