Bonjour, Paris! Bonjour, Iron Lady!

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this, but we just spent five incredible days in Paris. It was our school’s “Ski Week,” or February break, which alleviates the long stretch between Winter Break and Spring Break (for us, Spring Break is at the end of April).

While we had a rough start to this trip (from the initial planning all the way to our hotel reservations), with the help of friends and family we were able to make it special.

I also began a love affair with Parisian doors.

We started our first day pretty late since it took awhile to sort everything out that had gone wrong the day before. Our first mission was to find the most iconic Parisian site of all: the Eiffel Tower. Armed with our Metro cards and maps, we eventually made our way to the feet of the Iron Lady at last.

We did the thing you do: buy fresh vegetables, cheese, baguette, and wine at a local grocery store and have a picnic in the park at the base of the tower.

Everything you’ve heard about Paris being romantic is true. You can’t fight it or deny it. It just is.

We spent the rest of the day around the Eiffel Tower and at the edge of the Seine, finding a painting to buy, eating crêpes, and enjoying the sunshine.

As the sun started to go down and the full moon rose, we caught glimpses of the Grand Palais and Petite Palais on our way home. Then the Eiffel Tower started dancing with lights and we lingered on the bridge even longer.
