Father’s Day

Father’s Day has always been difficult for me to remember. After all, I haven’t had a reason to remember it for most of my life. Even after Lord Herndon and I got married, he was always the one who would bring it up in time for us to get something for Papa S, his father. Once Prince was born, I had to really mark it on the calendar so I could remember to make it special for Lord Herndon. Then we moved overseas, and the third Sunday of June kept falling quite awkwardly on the last day of school or the day of an international flight. I always feel like I never get to celebrate Lord Herndon for the amazing father that he is.

This year, Grandma M and Uncle S were with us and Princess was still erupting in red spots, so I couldn’t exactly plan a day-long celebration. We did what we could, though, and honored Lord Herndon with his favorite breakfast and a special card that Prince and Princess collaborated on which told all the reasons why they love their daddy. Some of the quotes were “he plays trains,” “he is strong,” “he tosses me up into the air,” “he always does what is right,” and “I love him so much.”

The kids are too young still to truly understand how to celebrate their daddy on Father’s Day, so until they can take that responsibility on for themselves, I will strive to make every year more special for Lord Herndon than the one before.
