We wrapped up our Medieval Week with a visit to Miramont Castle. I’d never been here before so it was a lot of fun to see it for the first time. They only had certain rooms open for the tour, which was specifically routed through the castle and kept part of it off-limits. Still, it was neat to see the Victorian-theme decorated rooms and what they contained. There was a WWI era office with soldier and nurse memorabilia, as well as a firefighter exhibit and a miniature display of the city that the kids loved.
My favorite part were the gardens in the back. They were beautiful! The path wound down the mountain, which itself is a part of the castle through a huge fireplace hewn from the rock wall. There were all sorts of trees and flowers and stone benches. We spent almost as much time outside as we did on the tour.
You can see the girls wanted to be princesses in the castle, so Evelyn is Éowyn and Penny is Arwen. They sure got a lot of compliments in their dresses, and I think that’s one reason the gentleman working the gift shop let them all have a free piece of candy.
Medieval Week was so much fun, and due to conflicts in schedule, it ended up sprawling into Space Week. The kids even got to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit again when my friend Nicole took them to Denver on Saturday. Some pics from our previous trip to this exhibit show you how well it fit in with our theme!
