So, here is a lovely size 10, perfectly fitted in the bodice and waistline…but still needing that extra 2″ add to the length of the bodice. Oh well, maybe next time.

This dress was made possible by the generous donation of a whole lot of fabric from my mom, who is clearing out her garage-full of fabric that she inherited from her mom. I asked for some kind of cotton lining fabric, because I usually line my dresses in whatever cotton I have on hand, which tends to be thicker than is necessary and makes my dresses a bit bulkier than they should be. My mom came to the rescue with an entire bold of thin, brown cotton. Yay! Brown is going to be perfect for most of my dresses because it will be dark enough to keep my see-through fabrics modest.

Case-in-point: this lovely mint and lavender floral cotton from my MIL’s stash purge, which is beautiful for spring. I made my very versatile pattern New Look 6824 and included the fabric sash.

This pattern make so many different dresses from the same basic pieces, but it has two flaws:

1. The “ease” above size measurements, which I figured out in the last post.

2. It is super long. Like matronly long. I always cut off or hem up about 3 inches. And even then it doesn’t clear my knees.

Other than those two things, though, I love it!

I think we all looked great for our family Easter picture! I was happy that all of us girls were wearing homemade dresses. I am so loving living here right now, when I can pursue my sewing with relative “ease.”

No pun intended.
