This is my last finished project from my sewing retreat a few weeks ago, a tribal print dress!
When I was cutting it out, I initially thought I would just cut it and let the pattern fall where it may. Then I thought I should match the design stripes along each side, which I was able to do for the back and sleeves. But it was too late by then to switch the front. I do regret that now, I think it would be even better with the color stripe down one complete side and the gray stripe down the other, front and back matched, but I still like it.
This is a great pattern with pockets and a waist-slimming midriff, a back yoke, and soft gathers. The sleeves are a new design for me. At first I was afraid the shoulder puff and elbow length looked too ’80s, but I like them more now.
One thing of note is that the bodice is close to being too low-cut! Mike saw this dress and said “Wow! That’s pretty!” and immediately put his arms around me, so I unintentionally made a sexy date night dress I guess!
If I wear the right bra I think it will be okay for a summer’s day, though.
I’d like to try this pattern again using the sleeveless version. I like the look of the maxi dress but I just don’t wear them much.
