This is my third version inspired by Modcloth’s Luck Be a Lady Dress! They have offered many different colors and designs since I’ve been watching.
This time I used a slightly different bodice design, with four neckline pleats. I used the bodice from New Look 6184 (added 2″ to the length), and the skirt from Vogue 8766. I hemmed it with a blind stitch at 1.5″.
I do wish I had checked the fit of the bodice a little better before finishing it. There’s extra fabric around the bustline that was either caused by my making it longer at the wrong spot or just because I should have cut a smaller size through there. I still love how it turned out, but I wish I’d fixed that.
I also wish I had remembered to add pockets! Oh well.
These photos were taken at Monument Valley Park, near the original Van Briggle Pottery Studio. My daughter Penny asked if I took pictures by a bathroom! I said no, those are famous pottery tiles on this building…
I also wanted to show how I’m going to wear this as the weather gets colder with my old dark jean blazer and my newly thrifted brown heeled boots!
My little photography buddy, Evelyn, had fun chasing grasshoppers and wanted to take a plaid-dress-with-boots photo with me.
And since I’ve been so inspired by Erica Bunker and her way of making her garments as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, I took the time to line the bodice with this luscious copper satin from my stash and hand sew it down along the zipper and the waistline. Lots of work but so nice to wear!
The fabric is a gorgeous cotton woven from my Grandma’s stash. As usual, I’m not sure exactly what it is.
I can’t wait to wear this dress all autumn long! And I’ll throw on a sweater and tights and keep wearing it as the snow comes.
