My current red trend continues! These two were planned as a set from the beginning and have been made for awhile, I was just waiting to add two black leather buckles to the skirt but Joann hasn’t had them in stock for weeks. So I just went ahead and wore the outfit and I’ll add the buckles later.
I was definitely (unashamedly) inspired by Erica Bunker’s outfit using the same patterns. Also by Kate Middleton’s pre-Duchess outfit.
So I started with Vogue 1465 and made the size 10 in black ponte knit. I love the pattern, the way the side seams curve around the back and there are no shoulder seams either. I did realize that the neck is too high for me, so I fold it down when I wear it.
I already have another version cut out in a raspberry knit from my Grandma’s Stash, so I just went ahead and cut the neckband half as high. I also think this pattern would look amazing with elbow-length sleeves, and since this would be so versatile I will probably make more and try that too.
The Vogue 8956 skirt pattern is fun and very different from anything I have! It’s a wrap skirt and I used this gorgeous red plaid wool from my Grandma’s Stash.
I was afraid using the same wool on the waistband would be itchy if I every wore it without a shirt tucked in, so I used a black faux leather that I found on sale at Hobby Lobby recently. It has a slight stretch, which makes it very comfy. I also worked hard to match the pattern of the plaid on the seams, even though the design itself was very easy. I cut the size 12, though since it wraps you can really be flexible as to wear you hook it, within limits of keeping the side seams straight.
Onwards and upwards! It’s back to my Christmas Etsy orders and decorating our house, one day at a time.
