Classy Trip Skirt in Aegean (New Look 6346)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

I whipped this skirt up pretty quickly, especially since I have used this pattern before here. This time I used View A, but it was so long! I ended up cutting about 3/3.5″ off and now I love it. I like a good midi skirt, but that was just too long.

I used this dusky teal wool blend fabric from my Grandma’s Stash and had exactly enough for this skirt, including the added belt loops. I was really inspired by this wool skirt by Brora, a Scottish clothing company. I was really happy to find almost identical buttons in my Grandma’s button collection.

Mostly, I wanted to make a skirt like this so I could be her:

Wool cross over flair skirt, knit sweater over peter pan collared button-down

I didn’t have the same lovely shade of teal wool, but this wool blend was close enough. My skirt looks like a different color in every photo!

I eliminated the back seam again. Honestly, why do pattern include that? It just seems bulky and unnecessary to me.

The skirt is high-waisted and super flattering. I will wear it with shirts tucked in and a belt, so I’m glad I put the belt loops on.

I tried a new button-sewing design, where your stitches all originate from one hole and it looks like a flower or a leaf. It was fun to do something new!

The fabric is pretty lightweight, so even though I interfaced the buttons and buttonholes, it does wrinkle. I’m going to try to wash it and iron it again to see if I can get it to lay flat. Other than that, I love it!

Apparently I’m on a skirt kick!
