Here’s another throw-back to my 2017 Sewing Goals list: a black knit wrap dress. It seems like I feel the need to “wrap” (ha!) that list up before I can really commit to my 2018 goals. (Just kidding there; I’ve already started several of the projects on my new list as well!)
I used Vogue 8379 in a size 12. This is the first true wrap dress I’ve made. The other ones were faux. So I was intrigued by the long waist ties and the hole on one side seam, where I thread it through to tie it around. Of course, after wearing this dress several times already and after I took all these photos, I was looking at Pinterest and saw that people had tied on one side and in a bow, and it looked so much nicer than in the front! Oh well, I’ll do it next time.
I used this fantastic black ponte roma knit from Mood Fabrics. I had ordered exactly enough for this dress + pockets. Of course I added pockets. I love the weight of this fabric so much. It’s comfortable and has great movement, but is thick enough to be modest and flattering. I think I’ll get more to make some basic black tees.
Next time, tie it on the left!
The elbow-length sleeves have split cuffs.
I love the flattering pleats and the collar.
And this is how I wore it for a January morning in Colorado.
It’s no lie that wrap dresses are incredibly comforting and flattering. I’m wondering if anyone will notice if I make 8-10 more for my closet?
