Florist’s Apprentice Tee (McCall’s 6964)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

I was excited to sew with knits to try out the woolly nylon thread I had ordered to see if it would help with the double-needle hemming problems I’ve always had. I like the look of a double needle hem for knits but the bobbin would always pull too tight and basically become a gathering thread, puckering the two lines of stitching on the top and unraveling easily. Since I can’t afford a cover stitch machine, I did some research and decided to try woolly nylon thread in the bobbin. It has stretch and worked like a charm! I initially ordered only white and black, since it’s a bobbin thread, but I can see the benefit of using it in the top threads as well. Rather than start buying all of the colors available, I am just going to use it in the bobbin for now.

I just needed a quick t-shirt pattern to try, so I used McCall’s 6964 again for this gray floral knit from my Grandma’s Stash. It made a great casual shirt that I’ve already worn 3-4 times before I ever managed to photograph it. Although I do think I’ll size down on the next one. It’s just a bit too loose now.
