I’m sewing again!
Or rather, in the case of this dress, I’m finishing sewing. I had started it earlier this summer before we packed up, but never had a chance to finish it before we moved, so of course I thought it would be smart to bring some unfinished projects with me.
I sewed a size 10 and made no fitting adjustments at all; the fit was that perfect. I did, however, make several changes that affected the dress significantly. I added pockets but temporarily forgot that it was actually an empire-waist dress, so they were too high on the sides and interfered with the twist detail on the front. I had to omit that and stitch the very top part of the pockets closed so that they wouldn’t stick out on the sides.
I also fully lined the dress, which is great for static-prevention and modesty, but also changed the way the front bodice detail worked, so I wasn’t able to completely enclose the waistline or the zipper like I usually would. The pattern was great, though, so I’ll happily try it again and use a different version. I really like the tucks on the sleeves.
This incredible navy floral crepe was a gift from Beth, my mother-in-law, and I loved it the moment I saw it. I’m happy to turn it into such a versatile, comfortable dress that I can wear spring, summer, and fall.
And it looks particularly good with my Simplicity 2508 fuchsia coat!
