Seaside Shirtdress in Seaside (McCall’s 6696)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This , ,

Having only what you brought with you to work on really forces you to focus on what’s at hand! I had (wisely) packed this project, completely cut out, that had been waiting for me to sew it up for over a year.

I liked this pattern a lot, though I don’t necessarily love the gathers in the back. I used lovely cotton fabric with beach huts all over it, and some light blue lining fabric and buttons from my Grandma’s Stash. This pattern has a lot of lovely pieces that go together really well. I did add another button to close the opening a bit, since it seemed too revealing when I sat down. You can see I’m self-consciously holding my hand across the opening in my lap. I actually removed the collar button to add it below, since I didn’t have enough otherwise. When I get the chance to bring my button stash overseas with me, I’m going to hunt for one more button for the collar. No one will know though, since I will almost assuredly never button the collar.

This pattern is a winner! I’m going to try again with the gathered skirt. I loe this for summer, though, and would love to try it in a fabric with more drape.
