Tie-Front Knit Dress (Vogue 9312)

In preparation for our 15th anniversary trip, I sewed up a couple projects to take with me. This dress was one of the first I knew I wanted to make once we finally decided where we were going and settled on Thessaloniki, Greece. (I still can’t believe we actually get to visit these incredible places!)

I knew I wanted an easy-breezy knit dress to wear over swimsuits. I used Vogue 9312 and this incredibly soft red floral knit that I nabbed while shopping at Joann with Mom when we were in the States. This pattern is super simple, and I even kept it that way by (shockingly) not adding pockets. With the empire waist, I was afraid pockets would add bulk to the softly flared skirt. The bodice tie is a cute detail and I am able to wear a regular bra with it because the tie ends cover the keyhole anyway.

Mike took some pics of me on the wonderful rooftop terrace of our Airbnb. We loved hanging out up there in the mornings, for dinner, and into the starry evenings.

I wore it again once we got back to Kyiv and it honestly feels like secret pajamas.

Oh my, what is that sparkly thing on my right hand?

It’s an anniversary gift from Mike! In Ukraine, a ring on the right hand means you’re married. So there were several conversations and moments of confusion this past year about Mike and I and our kids. We quickly realized that we would both need to wear a right-hand ring as well as a left-hand one, so we would be married no matter what country we are in. Mike did such a good job picking out an incredible diamond and amethyst ring for me, and I found a titanium ring for him. On the night of our anniversary, after dinner at a romantic beachside restaurant and a walk along the sand with the sun setting behind us, he knelt down and told me how much he loved me and how grateful he was to be on this life-journey with me. It was so romantic and perfect. I’ll never forget it.
