This is the first re-creation I tried, and I am pretty happy with it. I will wear it often since I like the colors and the fit. I have found myself drawn to the dresses that have a contrasting bodice, so they almost look like a shirt and a skirt. They are pretty versatile and can be worn as is or with a cardigan or a sweater (or even a shirt) on top.
I saw this inspiration dress on ModCloth months ago (it is no longer available), when I was first introduced to the site after spotting a wonderfully unique dress on Pinterest and following the link. What a world of creativity, cuteness, and completely re-creatable wonders I found there! With the help of MakeThisLook.com, which taught me how to look at the line drawing of a pattern to see what the “bare bones” of it looked like, I have learned how to see a dress, recognize the shape of it, find a matching pattern, and (most of the time) even the exact same fabric. How fun to look at a $100 dress and know that I can make it myself, perfectly fitted to me, for a fraction of that cost!
This new adventure of mine has also forced me to learn new sewing techniques that I have never tried before, like side zippers, invisible zippers, piping, and boning.
