Daisy of My Eyelet Dress (Vogue 8766)

Okay, so I am very ready for spring and summer! I don’t know why it happens so quickly to me, but after Christmas and all of the glowing loveliness of that season, January and February are so dreary and cold and wet and snowy and gray that I crave Spring way sooner than it actually comes. I know these are low months for most of us, and I have seen the slump that happens in Lord Herndon during school every year at this time. It’s just a tough season to get through! This dress is my attempt to bring a little Spring in early, even though I won’t be able to wear it until, oh, June.

I also have to admit that I love starting new projects. I love planning a new sewing project, carrying the pattern around with me everywhere I go so I can steal glances at it and envision different looks and fabrics, then finding the uninterrupted time to cut it out … and then I put it into my To Sew box.

Life happens.

I get another idea, dream about it, cut it out, and put it in the box.

More life.

How many projects are in my box? I will count them and update this post with the answer.

The Daisy of My Eyelet Dress came about when I had started a different dress and ran into a dilemma: I needed to seam rip an armhole binding and re-do it, and I needed to cut out another skirt to line the dress.

So I put that dress back into the To Sew box and whipped this one together instead. Easy peasey. I simply cut the eyelet in half to make two layers (one slightly shorter), dug in my stash for some light blue cotton with white daisy designs that was leftover from a Cinderella Dress in my Etsy store, experimented with boning in the bodice of this wonderful new pattern I got on sale, moved the back zip to the side, added some self-drafted straps, and voila! A summer dress in February.

I love it, the lightness of it, and the support of the boning (which was surprisingly easy to use). I do think that an extra 1-2 inches of length in the bodice would help flatter my figure, so I may need to start adding that to bodice patterns as a general rule.

I also added some pics of accessories that would be fun to wear with this dress, but I probably will never actually get them seeing as how the hat itself is $60! A girl can dream, though. I think this dress would look adorable with a mustard yellow belt, but I like the brown look too.

I am also in dire need of a new haircut/style, so change is on the way.

Oh! And how about we figure out a better background than the original orange 80’s carpet that covers our new house? Eesh.
