While Sweet Pea mostly wears hand-me-downs from Princess, I do make a special effort every now and then to make some new things for her too. She and I share the same birth order, so I know how it feels to never get new clothes that are all yours. I made her silver Fairy Ballerina Dress in time for my brother’s wedding in October 2012, but I only just now finished Princess’s black version. I like the continuity in the style, but the different lengths and colors help keep them from being too matchy-matchy.
With both of these patterns, the sizes were way too big in the bodice, so I had to take it in a few inches in the side seams and along the back zip. You can see that, though I made it form-fitting in October, Sweet Pea is already starting to strain in her bodice, whereas Princess still has room to grow and can plan to wear hers for a while.
The girls absolutely love wearing them. Sweet Pea calls it her “nah-nah” and wants to twirl in it. Princess wore hers to the Worth More Than Gold Princess Party at our church a few weekends ago and received tons of compliments. Yay for ballerina dresses! Who doesn’t love to twirl in tulle?
