Glad Romance Skirt in Tulips (self-drafted)

How satisfying to sew a version of a $98.00 skirt for free! With a floral cotton blend from my MIL’s stash, some coordinating striped denim, and white cotton for the lining, I was able to sew a fun new skirt at no cost whatsoever. Take that, Dave Ramsey!

Only the true seamstress out there will notice this, but I must point it out: The front of the waistband and the back do not match in stripes. The reason is that the remnant of striped denim was cut very strangely, and I had to piece from it the best I could. Oh well, I still like it. It gives it character.

I will also say, though, that my first thought when I put this on was, “Wow, that’s a lot of poof.”

Second thought was a question: “Can I handle the poof?”

Third thought: “If I strut, I can handle anything. I can handle this poof.”

So I did.

I tucked my cardigan into the skirt as if it were a sweater, and I like the result. I have to say, the new at-waist style is pretty flattering for us ladies who have had children. It makes my waist look smaller, and even though my hips look full, it is not in a “heavy set” way. I just have to keep myself from pulling down on it all day. After decades of hip-hugging clothes, it’s hard to accept a waistband at my natural waist.

One more reason I look this good? I caught the 3 week virus and lost 5 lbs! Kind of makes me want to catch it again…but no. Those nights of excruciating agony are not a worthy way of losing weight.

My two little girls, Princess and Sweet Pea, wanted to try their hand at some outfit shots as well, so here they are:
