So much of the fabric from my Grandmother’s stash is knit! I have to admit, I have had an irrational fear of knit for a long time. True, I use it for the pants in some of my costumes, but that’s about it. I have seen all of these “make your own maxi dresses from a tank top” tutorials, but I have never tried to trace a piece of store-bought clothing for a pattern. With so many beautiful knits at my disposal, I thought it my duty to start using them. So I found a pattern for a fairly simple top with a drapey front and decided to try it out. I liked it so much that I promptly made another! My passion for knits has been ignited.

This fabric had lines of flowers and stripes, so I used the floral in the front and the stripes on the back. I like it with skirts and pants. I am wearing it at this moment, actually! It is kind of like nightgown fabric, silky, but I think it translates well to a tank top.

The second one is a black knit with tiny white polka dots all over it, super cute! I also made small loops and added them to each shoulder to hold the drape across the bodice. I like the different look it creates.
