I’m still trying to catch up on all of the things I’ve sewn already but didn’t document. This fun coat I made last year? maybe two years ago? on a sewing date with my mom. This was my first time sewing with wool, and sewing a coat. I never wore it that much and I’m not quite sure why. I think the skirt is too full, but then again if I wear it with a full-skirted dress maybe I would like it better? I do like the full, deep hood, the pockets, and the belt. And I love the fabric. Since we are having such a snowy spring this year, I took pictures in it the other day and realized again how nice it is. Maybe I’ll give it some more airtime after all.
I’m also trying to get a bigger variety of photos for my creations, since standing in front of the same wall or window over and over is boring, especially for me! I’ve really been enjoying the fashion blog A Clothes Horse. She’s a quirky lady who married an Irishman and moved to Northern Ireland, and she dyes her hair crazy colors!, but I love her writing and her style. I’m currently binge-blogging and catching up on all her past posts. But in one she gives photography tips for outfit photos. While I never want to have a fashion blog, I do like what she said about taking outfit photos outside whenever possible, using props, trying different angles and poses, and utilizing foreground/middle ground/background. I’ll keep trying to improve the photos I take of my sewing creations, especially as the weather improves, and might eventually have a beautifully lit shot of me sitting in a grassy field with Garden of the Gods or Pike’s Peak in the background!
