Watermelon? Check! Dress (Butterick 5747)

I used Butterick 5747, a retro ’50s shirtdress design. I think the wide collar makes my waist looks tiny!

I tried to match the squares of the gingham, at least on the front and back seams, but gave up around the waistband and bodice with the darts and pleats. I love how it turned out though, it’s one of my favorite creations! So summery and unique.

My amazing embroiderer, The Button, The Needle, and The Wardrobe, worked on the watermelon seeds, and then gave me the great idea idea to put ants up one side of the dress. I love their cute design, and how they organically climb up one side without quite reaching their goal.
