This was a project I finished on our sewing retreat in Breckenridge. I had to do the facings around the armholes and neckline. I also needed to adjust the fit of the top of the zipper in the back. But here I am, trying to stretch myself and sew not only different kinds of clothes (pants, shirts, etc.) but, if it must be a dress, to try out new dress styles. As much as I love the fit-and-flare, this shape is new and fun! I like the side insets, which I covered with a woven lace that matched the embroidered flowers on the denim very well. It also has in-seam pockets, which are fun but not really that useful since they are right in front. I can just hook my thumb in them if I need to.
Aside from the gapping along the top of the zipper in the back, the pattern fit perfectly. I love the variety of fabric I have to choose from when I go a-wandering into my fabric storage room, stocked floor to ceiling with boxes of material that my Grandma collected, well before I remember her as mostly stitching quilts and towels. It’s always fun to wonder what she bought each particular piece for, what she had in mind to make out of it. I am hoping when I see her again in heaven, she’ll say “I love what you did with my stash!”
We share a middle name and a love of great fabric. Love and miss you, Grandma.
