I made these on my sewing retreat a few weeks ago, using Gertie’s Cigarette Pants pattern from Gertie Sews Vintage Casual. The pattern was easy to follow and went together really easily. I measured a size 10 for the waist and a size 6 for the rest, and since I haven’t sewn many pants or shorts I wasn’t sure what this would mean for fit so I cut them out a full size 10. Now that I’ve worn them once and seen how baggy they are, I am going to take them in from the waist down to the size 6 and update this post with more pics. If I can get the size right I will definitely use this pattern for some of the variations she suggested, like capris and shorts!
The fabric is the tiniest houndstooth design I’ve ever seen, so they look gray. I have a lot of fun denim from my Grandma that I’d love to try for this pattern. Thanks Gertie!
*** UPDATE ***
I took the pants in from the waist down to the ankles a 1/4″ on both outer seams and inseams, and raised the crotch by 1″. This basically made them the size 6 I measured at initially. I guess it’s better to just trust the pattern!
Here’s how they fit now, so much better!
