Welcome autumn weather! See the storm brewing in the peaks behind me? I love autumn, and every crisp morning breeze and tumbling yellow leaf makes me very happy. And this lovely tartan cape just might become my favorite autumn outerwear. Isn’t it wonderful?

I saw the Cozy Campside Shawl ($49.99) on Modcloth.com first, and though I liked it, I didn’t think much about it until I found nearly identical fabric at Joann’s! It is even reversible houndstooth on the back, just like the inspiration! And a quick search on Pinterest revealed even more examples. So one fantastic coupon later (this fabric isn’t cheap), I bought a yard and a half and then thought about how to make the right shape for a few days.

Finally, I saw this review and it all made sense. So easy!

So I just laid it flat, found the middle, and cut in from one short side. Then I rounded the corners and serged all around in black thread, because this fabric frayed really badly. The hardest, or rather most tedious, part was the blanket stitching all around. It look forever, but I just persevered and kept pulling it out to work on it whenever I was sitting down. So worth it!

On one of his many trips to Joann’s for me, Mike also grabbed a yard and a half of the blue as a surprise, so I will have two beautiful shawls to wear! And my two friends may or may not be receiving one of their own for Christmas….  I love it that much!
