I’m being brave and trying the jumpsuit trend again! The last one I made was well-liked on IG but had a lot of personal fitting problems for me. It too loose on the shoulders and kept sliding down, I had to sew the crossover front pieces together, it showed my bra through the sleeves, and it was too snug in the bottom! But I have a lot of jumpsuit and romper patterns that I’ve collected so I knew I needed to give them another chance. And this one: I like.
I used New Look 6413 because I like the front bodice zip, but made some modifications to the pants. Instead of elastic at the ankles, and because they were so baggy that it looked like a mechanic’s uniform, I tapered them in from the hips all the way to the hems and tapered them, and also removed about 4.5″ so they would be cropped. Everything else fit fine, including the waist-to-crotch depth. The fabric is some kind of tightly-woven navy cotton from my Grandma’s Stash, again I’m not sure what exactly it is but it’s sturdy and comfortable.
And you can see I love the pockets! I used a light blue lining fabric from my Grandmas’s stash, and coordinated them with light blue bias tape for the elastic casing.
I don’t know if I’ll ever wear it without a belt, but I do like the end result and my faith in jumpsuits and rompers has been renewed.
