100th Saw That, Sew This post! Yay!
It’s definitely not a catalog of every single thing I’ve sewn, but I’ve sure tried to keep a pictorial record so I can safely say that it isĀ most of what I’ve sewn.
This year, I let the girls have more design influence over their dresses for the Daddy Daughter Dance at the YMCA. They both wanted (or rather, Evelyn said it first and Penny agreed) a more mature silhouette, with less “poof.” So we looked for slimmer cut patterns, and then we decided to go with velvet for the bodice and a satin for the skirt. It was fun to go fabric shopping with them and see what they liked, and steer them away from choices that just would not work.
Penny’s pattern was Simplicity 1074. She loved this dark teal velvet first and then we found the satin and the sequins.
I was so happy with how her hair turned out! I used Pinterest for an idea but then made it my own and I think it turned out so pretty.
Both girls already had these black fur capelets so they went perfectly with their gowns.
Evelyn’s pattern was Simplicity 1510. I cut the size 8 but had to hem up so much and take in the sides and back so much that I probably ended up making it into a size 6! She needed a bit more length than Penny but they probably have nearly the same chest and waist measurements. It’s ok because I traced both patterns and can use them again as they grow older, but it was a lot more adjustments than I expected!
Evelyn saw this neon green velvet and it just captured her heart. So we went with it!
And Mike did a great job matching them both, despite me not having enough time to sew him a neon green bowtie out of remnants from Evelyn’s dress.
I hope I made the girls happy and fulfilled all of their dress design wishes! Now I need a break from slippery fabric…
