Today for Me Made May I wore another make from my recent sewing retreat: another pair of Vogue 8774 jeans!
My Pinspiration pic is from here.
I’ve learned a lot this year about making jeans. These are actually my fourth pair, but I wanted to add rivets to my white ones before wearing them. This fabric from my Grandma’s Stash and is one of her many pieces of denim that actually has a ton of stretch. Most of the rest of the denim is very sturdy with almost no stretch at all. So even though I cut these the same size as I did when I first used the pattern (14 with size 12 at the waist), I had to take them in about an inch on both sides! Crazy.
I had marked my pattern last time to take it in at the back yoke where it gaped, so these fit perfectly around the waist. I also flipped all of the fly pieces so they would zip from the right, and I added a jeans button as before. After the last time and using the basic jeans kit from Joann, I had ordered a large package of random jeans buttons and rivets so that I would be ready.
They went together so quickly! I also I think I’m getting the hang of jeans and they are still so addictive, even 4 pairs later.
I put in a little vent on the bottom hems, just to add something fun and different. I also simply serged the pockets and fly pieces, rather than edging them with bias tape like the instructions say. I found that this fabric, and the white, would show the bias tape and it wasn’t necessary anyway.
They’re so comfy! The stretch fabric feels so nice, and the light peach color is so fun for spring and summer.
I brough 5 possible projects, all cut out, to the retreat. I was able to finish 3.5 of them. That’s pretty good odds! I’ll be wearing the other ones this week.
