What the Trek Jeans in Snow (Butterick 5682)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

Continuing my review of what I made during my sewing retreat last weekend, and my series of Pinspirations!, here are my fourth (!) pair of jeans. These were made from this perfect white denim from Grandma’s Stash. It’s so sturdy and opaque, I love it, and I’m so glad I have figured out jeans enough by this point to be able to make a well-fitting pair of white jeans that I love. I had just given away my other thrifted pair in anticipation of having these, because the others were too long and had a weird combination of falling down and giving me the dreaded muffin-top. This Butterick jeans pattern is probably the best one I’ve found so far, because it sits at the perfect place on my waist with no muffins in sight, are just the perfect length, and fitted perfectly in the seat and legs.

Honestly the only thing I need to alter when I sew these is the length of the fly, which was about 1″ too short for my liking in the pink ones. I adjusted the pattern pieces on these and now they are just right.

I used the same cognac, rust-colored thread as all my other jeans because I like the subtle contrast it gives without standing out too much. I don’t know if I’ll sew any with the exact match of thread because I don’t want them to look too … sterile, maybe is the right word? Too much like I sewed it and then dyed it all at once?

But speaking of dying fabric, I did see one lady who purchased un-dyed denim and colored the fabric emerald green before making jeans from it. That, or some other color, would be fun one day!

And here’s another fun jeans button from my big variety pack that I had ordered. This one has a butterfly and a little flower, so sweet!

I did intend to add rivets to these but after trying several, even with the correct tools that I had ordered from Buckle Guy, they all just collapsed and bent when I practiced on a scrap of denim. Maybe the rivets themselves aren’t the best quality. I may order some directly from Buckle Guy and try again to add them to this pair.

Honestly, these Butterick jeans fit just a bit better than the Vogue ones do, so this really is the ultimate Jeans patter.

And what about that fun off-the-shoulder shirt I’m wearing? Stay tuned!
