Truly Luminous Midi Skirt in Asian Flowers (Butterick 5285)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

Another Pinterest inspiration, brought to life! These are so fun to do.

The inspiration skirt is actually from Anthropologie (their Angelique Midi Skirt). It was easy to choose a pattern because I have had Butterick 5285 for a long time and it had the perfect length, pleats, and pockets. I did double the thickness of the waistband to achieve a closer look to the inspiration, and I like it. I cut and sewed the size 12 and it fit perfectly with no alterations.

Life has been busy lately and many Etsy orders have been shipping out, so this skirt took awhile to make. I bought this lovely floral stretch crepe from Joann awhile ago when I had a ton of coupons and blessing from Mike to go buy all the floral fabric that made me happy. This was Penny documenting that day:

I’m even fondling this very fabric in that picture! Ha ha! Good thing kids are around to take photos of our lives.

Hemming took the longest. I was trying to take even, invisible stitches, and not pull it too tight since the fabric has stretch. It just took forever, but it feels amazing on. It’s so swishy, yet also has weight and feels incredibly soft. Plus I love the watercolor flowers and how many different things I can wear with it. This particular sweater was $1 at the Arc during their promo weekend a few years ago.

I wore this to take my mom and uncle out for breakfast for Mom’s birthday. We are planning another Sewing Retreat, but at her house this time. I have two jeans, a dress, and a shirt on my sewing agenda. Too ambitious?

On to the next! Can’t stop, won’t stop sewing…
