Along Flow the Ride Floral Maxi Wrap Dress (Vogue 9251)

I’ve found a fashion/travel blog that I really enjoy following, Gal Meets Glam. She wears clothes that I love and travels so much, having adventures with her husband everywhere from Jackson Hole, Wyoming to the countryside of France. (Yeah, I’m a little jealous). After seeing her photos from a two week holiday in Provence, I started finding inspiration for long, flowy floral dresses on Pinterest and knew I had to make one for myself. Even if I couldn’t be enjoying a picnic on a hillside in France, I could still get the look!

Even though I had initially only purchased a yard of this gorgeous peachskin from Joann, I went back for more so I could make this wrap maxi dress. Vogue 9251 was easy and beautiful, and the fabric was a joy to work with.

I sewed a size 10 with no alterations needed (not even in the waist!), but I did cut the back skirt pattern piece on the fold instead of using the back seam. I made of note of that in the last maxi dress I made: why the seam? If your fabric allows it, it makes a cleaner line if you simply cut it on the fold.

When I sewed the pockets, I didn’t want show-through and so I used a flesh-colored lining fabric from my Grandma’s Stash (that I had previously used to line this dress).

The pattern also called for bias tape binding along the edges of the bodice. As I considered this, I decided that I wanted to line it instead, using the same lining fabric as the pockets. It would give me better coverage and looked cleaner as well. I cut a 1″ facing of interfacing first to give the wrap edges some structure. And instead of using seam tape for the inside tie, I used some thin blue ribbon from my stash.

To ensure I have no wardrobe malfunctions, I have become quite adept at using these little friends. They work great! My only complaint is my hair gets caught in the tape sometimes but they work wonders for keeping my clothes in place.

I was able to keep pretending that I’m in France by sporting this lovely basket bag that my gym bestie, Heather, gave me before she moved. I had always admired it when she would bring it to the outdoor pool during our many outings this summer, and she was so sweet to leave it with me! Although I actually consider it as safe-keeping until she comes back.

I made sure to bring this dress with me when Mike and I went to Lake City for the weekend. I love wearing it so much, the way the fabric of the skirt flows when I walk and how flattering it is.
