Culottes of Luck! Capris in Blue Stripe (Simplicity 1887)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

I’ve been on fire lately! I’ve had laryngitis all week, and though I’ve completely lost my voice, my sewing fingers are singing and I’m just now catching up on pics of everything I’ve made.

I’ve wanted to sew some blue striped culottes ever since I saw Julia of Gal Meets Glam wear similar pants during her trip to France:

I did have a discussion with Beth about what constitutes a true pair of culottes. I understand them to mean wide-leg capris. She thought they had to be extremely wide leg! But I think these count.  I used Simplicity 1887 in size 10. I didn’t have enough 5/8″ elastic on hand so I used one length of 1 1/4″ elastic, which worked fine but is so stretchy I’ve had to take it in several times because they were too loose.

They are so comfy! And the pattern was very easy to sew. Although Penny did tell me they looked like pajama pants, I didn’t take her comments to heart because she says that whenever I make any kind of loose-fitting pants.

Also look! I’m trying out the “handkerchief tied on the purse handle” trend! I was sorting my Grandma’s fabric and came across a hemmed square of this navy polka dot and it worked perfectly.

I wore these first with my ponte sleeveless turtleneck (Vogue ), and I’m excited to try other tops too, even a crop top!
